University of Nottingham Law Society Post-Exams Cocktail Social, in Association with Allen & Overy

The annual Allen & Overy Post-Exam Cocktail Social was held this year on the 24th January at The Coco Lounge Bar in Nottingham’s Lace Market.
‘LawSoc’ members savour the odd night out in the Lace Market as a real treat, Nottingham cocktails do not come much better than those served up around its cobbled streets. It is no surprise, therefore, that the event this year was a complete sell out with 120 students attending.

The first guests to enjoy the champagne reception (available between 7.30-8pm and served, fittingly, from an A&O decorated table) were Ahmed Badr and Kate Dobson. Ahmed and Kate kindly travelled from London to enjoy the evening with us and share their respective experiences of Allen & Overy and also, more generally, legal recruitment.

The guests were each able to enjoy a number of cocktails encompassing the more traditional recipes such as ‘Mojito’ and ‘Amaretto Sours’ as well as ‘Lynchburg Lemonade’ and ‘Tokoyo Iced Tea’ for the slightly more adventurous!

Ahmed took up my recommendation of the Amaretto Sour, I heard no complaints so I can only assume that was sound advice on my part!

Students continued to enjoy the relaxed surroundings of Coco Lounge whilst trying (very hard!!) to forget about their Company Law and Contract exams and Land Law preliminary assessments!

Ahmed and Kate were more formally introduced to attendees just before the half way point of the event which ensured they were occupied throughout the evening with students eager to hear of their experiences.

Chariots (in the form of hired buses!) arrived at the end of the evening to transport students to a popular local after party where tickets and queue jump had been secured.

Overall the evening was a huge success with a lot of exam stress relieved and a lot of hair let down. A number of students commented on how approachable and helpful Kate and Ahmed were, so huge thanks must go to them from the whole of LawSoc, both members and committee, for joining us and helping to make the event an enjoyable one!
