Leading capital markets lawyer joins Allen & Overy Frankfurt

January 30, 2012

Allen & Overy LLP continues to grow its German Capital Markets practice with the hire of Dr Berthold Kusserow, a leading capital markets expert, who will join as a partner on 1 March 2012. At his previous firm, Linklaters, Berthold Kusserow built and led the German capital markets practice for many years.

"We have succeeded in attracting one of the most highly regarded experts for bonds and structured capital markets products in Germany," says Dr Neil George Weiand, senior partner of Allen & Overy Germany.  "This hire mirrors the high demand of legal advisory from clients not only in the fields of bonds and structured finance products but also in banking restructuring.  Berthold Kusserow's appointment is part of our strategy to keep enhancing our capital markets capabilities and being recognised as one of the leading firms in the field in the German market."

Berthold Kusserow specialises in bonds (stand-alone and debt programmes), structured capital markets products and related issues in banking regulatory and insolvency law.

Frank Herring, head of Allen & Overy's German capital markets practice, commented: "Berthold Kusserow brings a wealth of expertise, having acted on numerous high-profile bond transactions and, in a leading role, on some of the major bank restructurings.  We expect that the demand for advisory services will increase again, not only in connection with restructurings in the banking sector but also on CMBS (commercial mortgage backed securitisation) transactions.  With Berthold's outstanding expertise we will yet again strengthen our offering in areas where clients expect increased demand for external counsel."

Regarding the motivation for his move, Berthold Kusserow explains: "I look forward to playing a central role in building on Allen & Overy's leading capital markets practice in Germany and am confident I can put my two-decades long experience to good use in this process."
