Your legal career starts here
We are looking for people from a wide variety of backgrounds and experience, and know that the best potential lawyers aren't only to be found amongst those who have read a law degree. We welcome applications from individuals at all stages - undergraduates, graduates and career-changers. As long as you can demonstrate the skills we look for, we want to hear from you.
As a non-lawyer, your training contract with us will be exactly the same as a law graduate. However, your route to qualification will be slightly different (timetable for law and non-law) as you will have to study for the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) at Law School. This also applies if you have studied law in Ireland or Scotland, or have completed a law degree in an international jurisdiction that is not recognised as a qualifying law degree by the Solicitors' Regulation Authority (SRA).
The GDL is a one-year (or two-year part time) course designed to teach you research skills and everything you need to know about law before you join those with law degrees for the bespoke Allen & Overy Legal Practice Course. We do not have a preference for where you study the GDL and if you secure a training contract with Allen & Overy, we will pay your course fees and provide you with a maintenance grant as well (Rewards and Benefits).
