Regular contact with international colleagues & clients

We offer our clients a seamless, multi-jurisdictional tax advisory service, whether on a stand-alone basis or as an integral part of the full legal service offered by Allen & Overy. With over 110 tax specialists across our international network, we are able to offer both domestic and cross-border advice to our clients. This means that the range of deals and the variety of work to which the Tax department is exposed is perhaps the greatest of any department in the firm.  You will learn not only about the work done by the Tax department but also about the work of other departments. With over half of our lawyers based outside the UK, you are certain to be working with international colleagues and clients on a regular basis.

Work in the Tax department is perhaps some of the most engaging, technical and challenging that you will be given.  It is highly varied and can include attending client meetings, researching legal and commercial matters, attending conferences with counsel, reviewing and drafting tax clauses and preparing letters and applications to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

We advised Thomson on its $US 35billion combination using a dual listed company structure with Reuters.  We advised ABN in relation to discussions with Barclays and ultimate takeover by RBS.  We worked on the Heineken acquisition (with Calsberg) of Scottish and Newcastle as well as TUI AG on the £12.1billion merger of its tourism division with First Choice Holiday plc.  Many of our partners are also consistently recommended as Leading Individuals in the major directories.

You can find more information about the Tax practice area on the main Allen & Overy website.
