My final blog.....

01 Sep 2010

As the year comes to an end so, unfortunately, does this blog. However, before it does I thought I would write one final post for you to mull over before I am replaced for the new academic year.

“The only way to find out is to do it.”

The year began in pretty frantic fashion and it certainly felt like being thrown in at the deep end with the level of work and expectation. To be fair it didn't even really let up all year but we survived and got through. The reasons are simple: hard work, determination and absolutely great friends willing to put you first. The first two are keys to success at any firm or for anything you do. The third, however, is rarely found but something I've always had at A&O. For me that was the distinguishing quality which differentiated this firm from any other. If I had any doubts previously, I have no doubts now.

Some of you will wonder this firm sounds great, but is it for me? Can I get in? Will I fit in? In answer to that I have been to state schools throughout my education, I went to a university neither Oxbridge nor Russell Group and I come from an ethnic minority, yet I applied and I got in. My advice to any of you considering the firm is to come along to an open day, apply for the vac schemes, try for the training contract and pepper grad recruitment or any of the bloggers with as many sensible questions as you need answered. The only way to find out is to do it. As my blogs over the last year will have hopefully demonstrated it worked out quite nicely for me.

And finally, I hope you have enjoyed my efforts over the year. In some small way it may have provided an insight to you and aided your understanding of life as an LPC student with A&O. As for me the new year holds new prospects and exciting times ahead. Currently I'm in Greece at the outset of a three month trip which will see me explore parts of the world I had always hoped to visit and now find possible. Following that I will start at A&O in March and, for the time in between, it will be nice to just relax as one chapter in my life closes and another begins. Wish me luck!

Best wishes to you all for the next year and who knows I may even get the opportunity to work with some of you in the future.
