See you on campus

Every year, Allen & Overy work with a variety of student Clubs and Societies to run, sponsor or host successful events on campus.  We would like to showcase some of the key events we are involved with, and this section of our website will highlight key events that take place each month.  Some of the updates will be written by students, others by the Graduate Recruitment team.  We hope you enjoy reading about what Allen & Overy are doing on campus, and if you have any good ideas on how Allen & Overy could build links with your Club or Society, please email Amelia Bracken in the Graduate Recruitment Team.

Warwick Law Society Summer Sports Tournament - 3 May 2008

On Saturday the 3rd May 2008 Warwick Law Society hosted the Allen & Overy Summer Sports Tournament.  A number of Warwick University academic departments competed in netball and football matches.

The tournament saw entrants from Business, Economics, French, English, Engineering, Sociology, Computer Science, Politics, and Law.  Whilst some departments entered just one team, a number entered three with two playing football and one netball.  Allen & Overy LLP trainees also attended competing in the football tournament.

A total of fourteen six-a-side teams contested the football competition with Economics eventually emerging as the winners following a final victory over late-entrants Engineering.  The netball competition unfortunately suffered some late pullouts from History and French, however this cleared the way for the Law team to win in the final against Sociology.

After a hot day's sport over a hundred competitors and supporters headed to Varsity Bar to celebrate their successes and relax.  Following the foot the A&O trainees and Warwick Law Society presented the prizes to the winners and everyone enjoyed a few drinks!  Many Warwick undergraduates also took the chance to discuss careers and life at A&O with the trainees in attendance.  The evening finally finished in the Student Union at the Hed-Kandi event where the last players, supporters and A&O trainees enjoyed some great dance music!

LLM Society Boat Party - 30 May 2008

The UCL and LSE LLM Societies with the sponsorship of Allen & Overy will be hosting a spectacular end of term boat party on Friday 30th May 2008.

After boarding the boat in central London at 8pm, the event will begin with a reception drink.  This will be followed shortly after by a barbeque dinner on the deck.  The boat will cruise along the Thames until 1am, providing unforgettable night time views of many of London's main attractions.  There will be a DJ and dance floor inside, so get your dancing shoes out!  The boat will be making a stop at around 11pm for those of you who have to catch the tube home.

This will be an unforgettable event to round off the year, and a great opportunity for everyone to get together before many of us head back home.  The dress code is formal - we ask gentleman wear suits/dinner jackets and ladies wear cocktail dresses.

Tickets are £27, which includes the reception drink and barbeque.  There are two bars on board the boat, both serving drinks at reasonable prices.  Tickets are on sale now at Bentham House (UCL Law Department) and LSE.  We expect tickets, which are strictly limited by the size of the boat, to sell out fast, and so recommend you buy yours as soon as possible.

We are sure this will be a night to remember and hope that you will be able to come!  If you have any questions you can email the UCL LLM Society by clicking here or speak to us on campus.

University of Sheffield Dinner - 29 February 2008

Allen & Overy LLP (A&O) further strengthened its ties with the University of Sheffield by participating in an informal dinner and drinks evening with Faculty members and undergraduates from the University's Law Department.  In attendance from A&O were trainee solicitors and associates from the Litigation and International Capital Markets departments, as well as future recruits, who mingled with Faculty members and undergraduates over a Mexican dinner at the trendy Las Iguanas restaurant in Sheffield.

The ice, if any, was swiftly broken by the A&O team as they shared their experiences and stories relating to their diverse paths leading to careers at A&O.  The A&O team were on hand to answer queries and to give their insights into working at a top-tier international law firm.  The event was greatly enjoyed by the students, many of whom said that they would welcome similar events in the future.
